The hiring decision
What makes this hire work on your plant floor?
A battery cell process engineer owns the steps where a slurry becomes a cell that holds charge and survives cycling. When coating weight, calendering density and formation behavior hold steady, early scrap and ramp delays drop. We search for engineers who have run cell production in a real plant, not only a lab line.
We ask about slurry mixing, coating weight control, drying profiles, calendering thickness and the defects each produces. Candidates should describe a coating issue they traced to a specific variable and the measurement that confirmed it. Pilot scale experience matters, but production scale experience matters more.
Cell format changes the questions. We ask about cylindrical, prismatic or pouch cell assembly, alignment tolerances, tab welding, and inspection for burrs and contamination. We want to know what they did when overhang or alignment drifted.
Before an introduction
What do we check before you interview?
Early cell production lives on measurement. We ask about coating metrology, electrochemical test data, impedance and capacity distributions, and how the candidate used them to find a root cause. We look for people who have sorted real cells by failure mode and changed upstream settings as a result.
Formation and aging
We ask about charge profiles, temperature control, gas management, aging time and how data from formation was used to catch bad cells. A candidate who has changed a formation recipe should say what they watched.
Dry room and contamination control
We ask about dew point monitoring, entry procedures, humidity excursions and how they handled one. We look for engineers who understand how people, materials and air move through the space.
Chemistry fit
We ask which chemistries the candidate ran, and we tell you where experience crosses over. Ramp experience, with its yield learning curve, is a strong signal.

Direct search
Where are qualified people working now?
Experienced cell process engineers are scarce. Our main pool is United States cell plants run by global battery makers and the battery programs of vehicle manufacturers, where engineers have worked through a ramp. We also approach engineers from national laboratory programs who have supported production scale-up.
We search adjacent roles too: coating engineers from other roll-to-roll industries, and dry room operators or technicians with real process responsibility. We are clear about the learning curve each brings.
Because experienced people are scarce, we also look at engineers from adjacent high-volume processes such as precision coating, film, and electronics assembly. We make clear what they would need to learn on chemistry, safety and dry room discipline, and we discuss whether your team can provide that support.
We also check how candidates handled supplier relationships. Coating lines, calenders and formation equipment often come from overseas makers, and the engineer has to work with their teams on acceptance and troubleshooting. We ask who they worked with and how they resolved a disagreement over performance, because ramp schedules often depend on that relationship.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
- Formation and aging. Formation sets the cell's life.
- Dry room and contamination control. Moisture and particles ruin cells.
- Chemistry fit. NMC and LFP behave differently in mixing, coating and formation.
The search
How the search runs?
Outreach is direct and technical, and conversations begin with the process the candidate knows best. The short list arrives with notes on production depth, chemistry fit and ramp history. We coordinate interviews with your process and quality leads, arrange a site visit, and stay involved through offer and start.
Agree the brief
We begin by learning your chemistry, cell format, line stage and ramp plan. We write a brief naming the process steps and which are most urgent.

Qualify the work and support the hire
Cell plants carry unusual hazards, so we cover thermal runaway awareness, solvent handling and personal safety expectations during interviews. We also discuss shift coverage during ramp, travel to equipment suppliers and the pace you expect. Candidates deserve to see that picture before they accept.

What else affects this Battery Cell Process Engineer hire?
When do we pay?
Only if you hire someone we introduced. No retainer, and no fee for a search that ends without a hire.
Will you keep our name private?
Yes: Battery plants are closely watched. We describe your chemistry and format at a general level until a candidate is qualified and you approve.
Can you reach engineers who are not looking?
Yes: Most are in the middle of a ramp. We reach them directly with a specific process question from your line.
Will candidates relocate?
Often, since cell plants sit in a handful of regions. We discuss relocation early and arrange a visit before offer.
Do you search Formation Engineer or Electrode Process Engineer titles?
Yes: We search them and related titles, and we describe each candidate's real step ownership in our notes. We look for engineers who understand how people, materials and air move through the space.

The Six-Step Search
What do you get before interviewing?
1. Search CalibrationYou get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone. 2. Market MappingYou get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy.
1. Search Calibration
You get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone.
2. Market Mapping
You get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy. We identify the kinds of plants and teams where people already handle comparable equipment, processes and operating demands.
3. Professional Contact Intelligence
You get a way to reach working people directly. We check professional contact routes and approach candidates discreetly, without making your plant or vacancy public unless you approve.
4. Persistent Personalized Outreach
You get individual conversations about the actual opening. We explain the work, shift and location, ask whether a move makes sense, and follow up without pretending every person is interested.
5. Live Candidate Qualification
You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.
6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.
What should we discuss first?
A percentage of first-year base salary agreed in writing before the person starts, with no added charge for relocation or ramp support conversations. We ask about cylindrical, prismatic or pouch cell assembly, alignment tolerances, tab welding, and inspection for burrs and contamination.

What should you know before sending battery cell process engineer?
When do you pay a recruiting fee?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.
How long does it take to see a short list?
We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.
How do you handle counteroffers?
We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.
What replacement terms apply?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do?
We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
