Recruiting models, in general terms
ModelHow they find peopleWho they reachHow they chargeWhen it fits
Executive search

A commissioned leadership search; compare the actual proposal.

Research and direct approaches can be part of executive search. The published firm descriptions below identify what each says it offers.Relevant executive candidates, including people already employed. Scope depends on the search brief.Retained search pays for an agreed search engagement. Do not infer a named firm's terms from this model summary. An executive succession or leadership appointment where research and assessment need to fit the board's brief.
Permanent recruitment

A direct hire is not temporary labor supply.

Networks, databases, research, advertisements and direct sourcing may be used together. Ask how the recruiter will find people for your actual plant.Active and employed people, depending on the sourcing methods and assignment.Confirm the provider's permanent-recruitment agreement. This page does not quote competitor fees or replacement terms.A permanent plant, engineering, quality or commercial opening within the provider's relevant practice.
Industrial and skilled staffing

Temporary, temp-to-hire and direct services are different options.

Recruiter engagement, interviews, references and established candidate networks can be part of staffing. Service details differ by provider.Industrial workers and skilled candidates suited to the specific staffing assignment.Confirm the service, who is responsible for employment arrangements and the written terms with the provider.Shift coverage or a skilled staffing requirement. It may sit alongside a separate permanent leadership search.
Job boards

A way to advertise the opening.

A listing puts the job in front of people browsing or receiving job alerts.People who see the advertisement and choose to apply. An employed person may use a board, but many do not.The employer pays for the advertising or access arrangement and runs its own selection process.A role with a reachable applicant pool and an internal team able to screen and manage the response.
Manufacturing Headhunters

Specialist contingency headhunting.

We map the relevant plants and approach people doing the work now. The process starts with the equipment, scope and conditions of your opening.Employed manufacturing leaders, engineers and skilled technicians, as well as relevant people who are considering a move.No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The fee basis is agreed in writing before the search starts.A manufacturing opening where the process background matters and the people you need are not responding to the posting.

Compare the relevant skilled or industrial staffing service for your floor requirement, not a generic executive-search model.

These summaries are not claims about a firm's quality, success rate, fees, guarantees or people. None of these providers is described as relying only on job postings.

What should you know about start with the work, not the model?

A vacant seat can be the same title and a different hiring problem. A plant manager inheriting a stable site needs a different brief from one rebuilding the supervisor bench. A maintenance technician on nights must be able to work without the day team's support. Before choosing a recruiting service, write down what this person must do without help.

Then look at the people likely to have done that work. If they are already employed nearby and the posting has not reached them, direct approaches may make sense. If the need is broad temporary cover, a staffing provider may be the more useful conversation. Neither situation is a judgment about the quality of a firm. It is a question of which service you need.

Weighing your options? Start with one seat and see how we run it.

What should you know about retained search is an engagement, not just a job title?

Retained executive search generally involves a client commissioning a search and assessment process. The agreement pays for that work. That can fit a board-level appointment, a business succession question or a leadership brief that needs substantial advisory work alongside recruitment. The terms depend on the actual agreement.

A manufacturing company can need that model for one hire and a contingency search for another. We do not suggest that every executive search should be contingency. Ask the provider what research, assessment and process support are included. Be clear about which decisions remain with your team and how the engagement will be managed.

What should you know about staffing businesses offer more than one service?

Large agencies may have temporary staffing, permanent recruitment and executive search teams. A company's name alone does not tell you which model you are buying. Ask about the team handling your opening, its relevant process knowledge and whether you are discussing temporary supply, a direct hire or a retained assignment.

For a new shift, there may be different needs on the same floor. A staffing vendor can handle general labor while we recruit the skilled core: the lead, setup person, maintenance coverage and quality technician. We do not supply high-volume general labor. Contract and temp-to-perm recruitment are available on request, with terms set for the engagement.

Weighing your options? Start with one seat and see how we run it.

What should you know about a posting is useful when the right people will apply?

A job board makes an opening visible. Your description, location and shift determine who responds. Someone running the same equipment at a nearby plant may see it. They may also have no reason to look at advertisements. Posting and headhunting answer different questions: who will apply, and who should be approached.

If you have a suitable applicant pool and a team that can screen it, keep using what works. If the response is mostly people who have not done the job, another listing may not change that. We ask why a qualified person would leave their current employer and what in your opening makes the move worth discussing.

What our contingency search includes?

We agree the practical brief, map relevant backgrounds and contact people individually. We qualify the work they have actually done before you meet them. A controls engineer's title does not establish whether they can troubleshoot your system. A machinist's resume does not establish who makes the setup decisions. Those are conversations, not keyword matches.

You decide who fits your plant. We stay involved through the interviews and offer discussion, including the shift, commute, relocation and counteroffer risks that can stop a move. There is no upfront fee and no fee if you do not hire. Ask us about the written terms before we start. We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

Weighing your options? Start with one seat and see how we run it.

What should you know about questions worth asking any provider?

Bring a description of the actual floor to that conversation. For a machinist, explain who sets the job and proves out the program. For a quality manager, name the standard and the unresolved finding. For a shift leader, explain what support is available overnight. A provider cannot choose an appropriate search method from a title and a location alone.

Ask how the recruiter will identify people, who will speak to them and what you will learn before an interview. Ask what happens if the brief changes. Make the location, shift and required credentials explicit. If you need someone who has done a startup or worked under a particular quality system, say so before the search begins.

This comparison describes models, not promises about individual firms. The examples identify businesses publicly associated with those services. They are not an assessment of their people, fees or results. Providers may offer several models, and their written proposals govern the actual work. Choose the agreement that fits your opening.

For our manufacturing search, the supported process is intake, targeted market research and direct outreach, qualification, a focused shortlist, and interview and offer support. Plant management, engineering, quality, maintenance and skilled manufacturing searches need different screening, even when they share an engagement model.

What should you know before sending how we compare?

When do you pay a recruiting fee?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.

How long does it take to see a short list?

We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.

How do you handle counteroffers?

We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.

What replacement terms apply?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What do you not do?

We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
