What should you know about positions we recruit in Maintenance, Reliability & Facilities?

Maintenance ManagerCheck CMMS (enterprise maintenance management, enterprise asset management, maintenance management software, maintenance planning software). Director of MaintenanceCheck Multi-site maintenance strategy. Maintenance SupervisorCheck Crew of mechanics and electricians. Maintenance Planner / SchedulerCheck Work order planning, backlog management, kitting. Reliability EngineerCheck RCM, FMEA, vibration analysis (Cat II/III), oil analysis, thermography.

Combined maintenance, reliability & facilities titles share a page where the work is the same; each link opens the relevant hiring brief.

What should you know about matching the responsibility, not only the title?

A director of maintenance runs multiple sites or a large complex with budget, contractors and spares strategy. A maintenance manager runs a plant department. We ask about the ratio of planned to reactive work they inherited and left, how they handled the technician shortage and what a typical overtime month looked like.

Directors and maintenance managers

A director of maintenance runs multiple sites or a large complex with budget, contractors and spares strategy. A maintenance manager runs a plant department. We ask about the ratio of planned to reactive work they inherited and left, how they handled the technician shortage and what a typical overtime month looked like.

Maintenance and engineering managers

A combined maintenance and engineering manager owns capital projects as well as repair. That is a different person from a pure maintenance leader. We test whether they can write a project scope and manage a contractor, not only run a shift of mechanics.

Supervisors, planners and lead technicians

Maintenance supervisors lead a crew, manage safety and lockout, and coordinate with production. Planners and schedulers build work packages, manage backlog and parts, and live in a CMMS. Lead technicians are working craftspeople. We confirm trade depth in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or PLC troubleshooting.

Reliability and asset management

Reliability engineers use vibration, thermography, oil analysis and RCM or FMEA to prevent failures. Reliability managers build a program and defend it to finance. CMMS and asset managers own data quality in systems such as enterprise asset management or enterprise maintenance management. We look for programs that survived a budget cut.

Facilities, utilities and tool room

Facilities managers and engineers handle buildings, compressed air, steam, chillers, boilers and utilities. Energy managers track consumption and projects. Tool room managers run machining, dies and molds in support of production. We match the utility or tooling profile to your plant.

Where we find this experience?

Maintenance leaders come from plants running similar equipment and similar schedules. Supervisors and planners step up from the technician ranks, and from nearby plants. Reliability talent comes from continuous process plants such as paper, chemical and food, where downtime is expensive, and from firms that sell condition monitoring.

Facilities and utilities talent comes from large campuses, hospitals, data-center-adjacent industrial sites and building product plants. Tool room managers come from stampers, molders and mold and die shops. Former military maintenance leaders, especially from aviation and shipboard engineering, are a strong source for supervision.

Maintenance candidates often undersell themselves, so a resume can hide a strong record. We ask what broke, how it was diagnosed, what the spare parts situation was and what changed afterward, and we speak with people who worked beside them. A calm account of a failed gearbox tells us more than a list of certifications ever will.

How this manufacturing search runs?

We ask to see the maintenance side of your plant: the equipment list, the CMMS, the backlog, the shift coverage and the relationship between maintenance and production. A walk of the floor tells us more than a job description, and it tells candidates what they would actually inherit.

We interview for trade credibility as well as leadership, and invite your lead technician into the conversation where it makes sense. Offers in this field are often affected by shift, on-call and overtime expectations, so we make those explicit early and keep them consistent through the close.

Because maintenance sits between production, engineering and purchasing, we assess how each candidate handles those boundaries. We ask how they negotiated downtime windows, argued for spares or pushed back on a rushed schedule, and how their previous plant manager would describe the working relationship, then we compare that to the dynamics in your building.

What should you know about questions about Maintenance, Reliability & Facilities searches?

What is your fee for maintenance searches?

A percentage of first-year base salary, agreed in writing, with no upfront fee.

When is the fee payable?

Only if you hire a candidate we introduced to you.

Can we search without alerting our technicians?

Yes: We keep your name out of outreach until candidates are qualified, so your crew does not hear it from the market.

Do you recruit maintenance people who are not applying?

Yes: Good maintenance leaders are rarely on job boards, so we call them directly.

What about rural plants and relocation?

We discuss commute, housing and schools early, and look first at people already within reach of your plant.

Can a planner become a supervisor?

Sometimes: Planning skill does not equal crew leadership, so we test people management separately and tell you if the move is a stretch.

What replacement guarantee applies?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What should you know before sending maintenance, reliability & facilities?

When do you pay a recruiting fee?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.

How long does it take to see a short list?

We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.

How do you handle counteroffers?

We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.

What replacement terms apply?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What do you not do?

We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
