The hiring decision
What makes this hire work on your plant floor?
We ask what they built: asset hierarchy, criticality ranking, failure mode analysis, preventive and predictive task libraries. We want to hear how they chose the first ten assets and who was in the room. A candidate who ran a reliability program can explain what they would do differently.
A reliability manager decides which machines deserve attention before they fail. The seat translates failure history into spare parts, inspection routes, redesigns and arguments for capital, and it earns trust only if the plant sees fewer surprises. We search for managers who have built a reliability program from criticality ranking to a working spares strategy, and who can persuade a plant that is used to repair.

We ask for a decision that came out of the analysis, such as deferring work on a low-risk asset or funding a redundant pump. We also ask how the plant manager reacted.
Before an introduction
What do we check before you interview?
Spares strategy and storeroom realityWe ask how they approached critical spares, min-max settings, obsolescence and vendor consignment. A strong answer includes a risk logic, not just inventory reduction. Condition monitoring in actual useWe look for candidates who closed the loop with work orders rather than collecting reports no one read.

Data discipline in the CMMS
Reliability depends on failure codes and history. We ask how they cleaned the data, handled failure code design and trained technicians to record failures. We also ask about the reports they used with operations leaders each month.
Persuading a plant that prefers repair
We ask how they gained credibility with technicians and production. The reliability manager is often an outsider to the shop floor. We look for candidates who earned trust by solving a recurring failure rather than presenting a framework.

Direct search
Where are qualified people working now?
Our current sources for this seat are senior reliability engineers at peer plants who already do most of the work without the title, reliability leads at larger sites ready to run a smaller program with more authority, and maintenance managers with strong analytical skills who moved into reliability.
Many are employed and recognized internally, but boxed in by a bigger organization.
We contact them directly and describe your equipment base, the CMMS and the existing maintenance team. Process and discrete plants differ in failure patterns, so we match them carefully.
A third pool is reliability-minded maintenance planners and condition monitoring technicians who have taught themselves analysis and earned certifications on their own time. They may lack a degree or a manager title, but they know the failure history of their equipment in remarkable detail. We also talk with mechanical engineers from equipment manufacturers who learned failure modes from the supplier side and want to apply that knowledge inside a plant. We discuss pay structure and title with them candidly, since this group often moves sideways to move up.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Criticality analysis that changed decisions. Criticality ranking is only useful if it changes where money and attention go. Spares strategy and storeroom reality. Reliability managers often inherit a storeroom full of the wrong parts. Condition monitoring in actual use. We ask about vibration, thermography, oil analysis and ultrasound: who collected the data, who interpreted it and what actions followed.

The search
How the search runs?
We start by asking about your worst repeat failures, the maintenance structure, existing data and who will champion the program. We also ask whether reliability has been tried before and what happened. Screening covers program ownership, criticality analysis, spares strategy, condition monitoring and data discipline.

Approach relevant people
You receive written summaries that separate verified accomplishments from claims. We arrange interviews that include a case discussion about one of your recurring failures, and we call references from maintenance and operations leaders who used their analysis. Our fee is a percentage of first-year base salary, agreed in writing before the manager starts, and it is owed only if you hire. Reliability work only matters if it survives the first difficult quarter, so we ask references about what remained after the candidate left a previous role.
Qualify the work and support the hire
Did the criticality ranking still guide decisions? Did the spares logic hold? Did the maintenance team keep using the data? We report those answers to you directly, because a program that disappears when its author leaves was never really built.

What else affects this Reliability Manager hire?
When do we pay?
Only when a reliability manager we presented accepts your offer and begins work. Interviews and case discussions do not create a fee if you do not hire.
Is our equipment failure history kept confidential?
Yes: We describe your plant by process type and size until a candidate is qualified and agrees to a conversation. Failure data and asset details are shared only with your approval.
Can you reach reliability managers who are not looking?
Yes: Most are working on a program they care about. We call them directly, describe the authority and the equipment, and let them judge.
Will reliability managers relocate?
Many will for a program they can own, though some prefer to remain near a hub. We ask early so your timeline reflects the real pool.
What other titles are in scope?
Reliability Engineering Manager is the main alternate. We also review senior reliability engineers who led programs without the manager title.

The Six-Step Search
What do you get before interviewing?
1. Search CalibrationYou get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone. 2. Market MappingYou get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy.
1. Search Calibration
You get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone.
2. Market Mapping
You get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy. We identify the kinds of plants and teams where people already handle comparable equipment, processes and operating demands.
3. Professional Contact Intelligence
You get a way to reach working people directly. We check professional contact routes and approach candidates discreetly, without making your plant or vacancy public unless you approve.
4. Persistent Personalized Outreach
You get individual conversations about the actual opening. We explain the work, shift and location, ask whether a move makes sense, and follow up without pretending every person is interested.
5. Live Candidate Qualification
You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.
6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.
What should we discuss first?
How do you set the fee for a reliability manager search?
It is a percentage of the first-year base salary of the manager you hire, agreed in writing before they start. The reliability manager is often an outsider to the shop floor.
What should you know before sending reliability manager?
When do you pay a recruiting fee?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.
How long does it take to see a short list?
We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.
How do you handle counteroffers?
We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.
What replacement terms apply?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do?
We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
