The hiring decision
What makes this hire work on your plant floor?
A customer quality engineer is the person your OEM customer calls when a part fails, and the phone usually rings before your plant knows. When you hire a Customer Quality Engineer, you need someone who can read an OEM scorecard, turn around an 8D with substance and manage controlled shipping without losing the account.
We search for engineers who have lived inside a Tier 1 or Tier 2 supplier's customer relationship and can explain how a bad quarter was repaired.
Each OEM has its own portal, metrics and escalation language. We ask which customers the candidate supported, how their parts per million, delivery and warranty numbers were tracked, and how a downward trend was reversed.
Fast 8Ds are common, but good ones are rarer. We ask for a recent 8D: how containment was set up, how root cause was verified, how escape cause was handled and how the customer reacted to the submission. We also ask how the candidate handled pressure to submit before the root cause was proven.
Before an introduction
What do we check before you interview?
Controlled shipping is a plant-wide event. We ask whether the candidate managed a supplier through CS1 or CS2, how the added inspection was staffed, what the exit criteria were and how long it took to earn the customer's release. We listen for operational detail beyond the paperwork.

Resident or on-site customer presence
Some roles place the engineer inside the customer's facility.
Bridge between customer and plant
The engineer must translate customer complaints into plant action. We ask how they got production, quality engineering and maintenance to act on a customer concern, and how they dealt with a plant leader who wanted to argue with the customer. Credible examples show influence.
Red flags we screen out early
Hiring managers should also be wary of those who rely entirely on a manager for analysis.

Direct search
Where are qualified people working now?
We find customer quality engineers at Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers, where OEM scorecards and controlled shipping are routine. We also reach customer quality staff at suppliers to heavy truck, off-highway and aerospace programs, resident engineers placed at customer sites and quality engineers in plants that recently handled escalations.
We match to the customers you serve. An engineer who knows one OEM's process well may need time to learn another, so we weigh customer overlap alongside process type, part complexity and your plant's volume.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Which OEM portals and scorecards they worked in. People familiar with those portals describe the screens and the reporting rhythm without prompting. Resident or on-site customer presence. We ask how the candidate handled sorting, rework approvals and relationships with the customer's quality team, and how they communicated bad news back to their own plant leadership without delay.

- Red flags we screen out early. We watch for engineers who describe only communication and no technical root cause work, who blame the customer in every story, who have never experienced a customer-initiated escalation, or who cannot name the standard applied to their plant.
The search
How the search runs?
We begin by learning which customers you supply, what the scorecards currently show, which escalations are active and whether the role sits in your plant or at the customer's site. We then define what the engineer must handle on day one, and build a target list from the pools above.

Approach relevant people
Candidates are approached directly, including those now working through a live escalation. Each candidate is screened on portals, 8D substance, controlled shipping and plant influence before you see them.
Qualify the work and support the hire
We provide written notes on what they described. We confirm compensation, relocation and travel expectations early. Our fee is a percentage of first-year base salary, agreed in writing before the search starts, and no fee is due unless you hire.

1. Search Calibration
You get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone.
2. Market Mapping
You get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy. We identify the kinds of plants and teams where people already handle comparable equipment, processes and operating demands.
3. Professional Contact Intelligence
You get a way to reach working people directly. We check professional contact routes and approach candidates discreetly, without making your plant or vacancy public unless you approve.
4. Persistent Personalized Outreach
You get individual conversations about the actual opening. We explain the work, shift and location, ask whether a move makes sense, and follow up without pretending every person is interested.
5. Live Candidate Qualification
You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.
6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.
What should we discuss first?
What is your fee for a Customer Quality Engineer search?
We charge a percentage of the engineer's first-year base salary, agreed in writing before the search begins. Bonus and relocation do not change the basis.
What should you know before sending customer quality engineer?
When do you pay a recruiting fee?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.
How long does it take to see a short list?
We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.
How do you handle counteroffers?
We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.
What replacement terms apply?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do?
We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
