The hiring decision
What makes this hire work on your plant floor?
An NPI engineer or manager is where design intent meets a production line that has never built the product. The work involves design reviews, pilot builds and a ramp that has to satisfy a customer approval process or a regulated validation.
We search for people who have taken products from prototype to stable production in electronics, medical devices and automotive supply, and who can explain what broke along the way. We also ask what the product mix looked like, how many programs overlapped and how they decided which launch received the best technicians when two collided on the same week.
We ask about the last design review they led, what they challenged and what changed. A good NPI engineer can describe tolerance stacks, assembly sequence problems and test access issues. We also ask how they handled a design team that resisted manufacturing feedback.
We ask how they planned pilot builds, what they learned and how they transitioned to production. We listen for specifics: fixture changes, yield problems at first article and how they trained operators. Candidates who never owned the ramp tend to describe it in general terms.
Before an introduction
What do we check before you interview?
PPAP for automotive workWe ask about control plans, measurement system studies and capability evidence. We also ask who they relied on in quality. IQ, OQ and PQ for medical workIn medical device settings, we ask about equipment qualification, process validation and the documentation that supported them.

Management scope, if the role is a manager
For NPI manager roles, we ask team size, how projects were prioritized and how they handled conflicting launches.
Red flags we screen for
We also ask whether the product is still in production, since stable products tell us something about the ramp.

Where are qualified people working now?
Typical sources are electronics manufacturers, medical device makers and automotive suppliers that run frequent launches, since those environments produce engineers who have been through many ramps. We match the regulatory environment: an automotive launch person is a different match from a device validation specialist, and we say so.
We also approach engineers at contract manufacturers, who see many products and learn to ramp quickly. Most are employed, so we call them directly and describe the product category and the stage of your pipeline.
Test and process engineers on the production side who supported launches without owning them are another useful pool. Many are ready to lead and already know what a failed ramp looks like.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Management scope, if the role is a manager. We ask what they do when sales promised a date the factory cannot meet. Red flags we screen for. We are cautious about candidates who claim a launch yet cannot describe the yield at first build, who blame design for every problem, or who have never been present at a customer audit.

The search
How the search runs?
Because launch work is tied to calendars, we also look at how a candidate would be introduced into a program already in motion. We discuss which programs they would take first, what handover they would expect from the current team, and how your design engineers would work with them from the start.
Agree the brief
We begin with your launch pipeline: product types, volumes, customers, validation requirements and how many launches overlap. Then we search the relevant pools and screen on the checks above, with questions about specific launches.
Approach relevant people
We check references with colleagues in design, quality and production. You receive a short list with our notes on strengths and fit, and we help structure interviews, including a case based on one of your upcoming launches.

What should you know about open jobs?
What else affects this NPI Engineer hire?
Yes: Upcoming products are sensitive, so we describe your work by sector and region and share nothing about specific programs until candidates sign confidentiality terms. We ask about the last design review they led, what they challenged and what changed.
When do we pay?
Only if you hire someone we introduced. No hire means no fee.
Can we keep the search confidential?
Yes: Upcoming products are sensitive, so we describe your work by sector and region and share nothing about specific programs until candidates sign confidentiality terms. We ask about the last design review they led, what they challenged and what changed.
Do passive candidates talk to us about NPI roles?
Often yes: Engineers carrying several launches at once are open to a better-run program, and we reach them directly. We ask about the last design review they led, what they challenged and what changed.
How do you handle relocation for NPI hires?
We raise it at the start. NPI engineers tend to follow launch clusters, so we search near your plant first and discuss relocation when the specialty is rare.
Do titles like Launch Engineer or New Product Introduction Engineer count?
Yes: We search those titles and judge candidates by the launches they owned and the validation environment they worked in. A good NPI engineer can describe tolerance stacks, assembly sequence problems and test access issues.

The Six-Step Search
What do you get before interviewing?
1. Search CalibrationYou get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone. 2. Market MappingYou get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy.
1. Search Calibration
You get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone.
2. Market Mapping
You get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy. We identify the kinds of plants and teams where people already handle comparable equipment, processes and operating demands.
3. Professional Contact Intelligence
You get a way to reach working people directly. We check professional contact routes and approach candidates discreetly, without making your plant or vacancy public unless you approve.
4. Persistent Personalized Outreach
You get individual conversations about the actual opening. We explain the work, shift and location, ask whether a move makes sense, and follow up without pretending every person is interested.
5. Live Candidate Qualification
You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.
6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.
What should we discuss first?
How is the fee set for an NPI search?
It is a percentage of the first-year base salary of the person you hire, confirmed in writing before the search starts. We ask about the last design review they led, what they challenged and what changed.
What should you know before sending npi engineer?
When do you pay a recruiting fee?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.
How long does it take to see a short list?
We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.
How do you handle counteroffers?
We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.
What replacement terms apply?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do?
We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
