The hiring decision

What makes this hire work on your plant floor?

TIG work is demanding and varies by metal. Stainless needs purge control and heat management. Aluminum needs clean prep and balance control. Thin wall tube needs steady hands and low heat. We ask what the candidate welded most and what failures they learned from.

Describe the alloys, wall thicknesses and codes behind your TIG Welder search. We find GTAW specialists who weld clean, thin and critical joints.

TIG work is demanding and varies by metal. Stainless needs purge control and heat management. Aluminum needs clean prep and balance control. Thin wall tube needs steady hands and low heat. We ask what the candidate welded most and what failures they learned from. General claims are not enough.

AWS D17.1 covers aerospace integrated CAD/CAM tools welding. ASME Section IX covers pressure work. Each qualification is specific to a process, material and range. We ask when each was earned and whether it remains active. A lapsed qualification is not a disqualification, but you should know.

Before an introduction

What do we check before you interview?

Some TIG jobs need only a good hand. Others need records, travelers and traceability. We ask whether the candidate worked with weld logs and material certs. A great welder who dislikes paperwork may struggle in a controlled shop, and we mention it.

  • Sanitary and orbital tube welding

Food and pharma equipment needs smooth, crevice-free welds with clean purge. Orbital welding adds setup, programming and inspection. We ask about borescope checks, purge quality and how the candidate handles discoloration.

  • Hand skill versus documentation

Some TIG jobs need only a good hand. Others need records, travelers and traceability. We ask whether the candidate worked with weld logs and material certs. A great welder who dislikes paperwork may struggle in a controlled shop, and we mention it.

  • Alternate titles

We ask for the last thing they welded and the process around it. That gives a clearer view than any title.

  • Red flags, shift and relocation

Warning signs include dirty tungsten habits, no purge discipline and no interest in prep. We also ask about shift and commute, because strong TIG people are rare and often live far apart. We learn current pay and what a move requires so the match is real.

  • Prep, cleanliness and tungsten habits

TIG quality starts before the arc. We ask how the candidate cleans aluminum, prepares stainless edges and manages tungsten shape and contamination. Honest welders explain their habits with detail. Lazy prep shows up later as porosity and rework, so we listen for care.

  • Documentation and traceability

Aerospace and food equipment shops often need weld logs, material certificates and traveler sign-offs. We ask whether the candidate has worked under that discipline and how they handled it.

Direct search

Where are qualified people working now?

Aerospace fabricators hold TIG welders who work to strict procedures and inspection. We approach them directly and ask about their work and records. They tend to be careful and procedure-driven, which suits controlled shops but may feel slow in high-volume ones.

Food-equipment fabricators and process piping shops hold sanitary and tube welders with fine control. A piping welder may be strong on pipe but less so on sheet. We describe each person's real range so you can match them to your work and the training you can offer.

Many TIG welders are quiet about their ability and rarely update public profiles. We build trust through peers and ask about the toughest weld they made. That story reveals their standards and tells us what kind of product they would enjoy making.

Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?

Sanitary and orbital tube welding. People who have only welded structural parts may not know these standards. Alternate titles. GTAW Welder, Aluminum Welder and Stainless Welder can be the same person or very different ones. Documentation and traceability. A welder who finds the paperwork a burden may still be great at the torch, but may not fit a regulated shop.

The search

How the search runs?

We start by learning your materials, wall thickness, codes and the quality checks your parts face. We ask how welds are inspected and who qualifies welders. Then we confirm shift, travel and the room for training. We approach working TIG welders, ask for detailed stories and verify qualifications.

  1. Agree the brief

We start by learning your materials, wall thickness, codes and the quality checks your parts face. We ask how welds are inspected and who qualifies welders. Then we confirm shift, travel and the room for training. We approach working TIG welders, ask for detailed stories and verify qualifications.

  2. Approach relevant people

We check commute and pay expectations early. You interview a short list, and we help with the offer through to the start date. Before presenting a candidate we also confirm what test coupons they have run recently and what materials those covered. We share that history and our read of how well it fits your product.

  3. Qualify the work and support the hire

You then decide whether to run your own test, which is standard in many shops. We also ask what torch and power source setups the candidate prefers and how they adapt to different machines. Welders who are flexible about equipment usually settle faster. We report preferences so your team can plan the first weeks.

What else affects this TIG Welder hire?

Does a qualification transfer to my procedure?

Not automatically: We explain the limits and you decide how to requalify. Each qualification is specific to a process, material and range.

Can a MIG welder move to TIG?

Sometimes, with training and time. We label those as growth hires.

What if our work includes exotic alloys?

We ask each candidate about titanium, nickel alloys or other specialty metals directly and report what they have actually welded. Experience with one exotic material does not always carry to another.

How is the search fee agreed?

The fee is a percentage of first-year base salary, agreed in writing before we start. There is no upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

  1. 1. Search Calibration

You get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone.

  2. 2. Market Mapping

You get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy. We identify the kinds of plants and teams where people already handle comparable equipment, processes and operating demands.

  3. 3. Professional Contact Intelligence

You get a way to reach working people directly. We check professional contact routes and approach candidates discreetly, without making your plant or vacancy public unless you approve.

  4. 4. Persistent Personalized Outreach

You get individual conversations about the actual opening. We explain the work, shift and location, ask whether a move makes sense, and follow up without pretending every person is interested.

  5. 5. Live Candidate Qualification

You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.

  6. 6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.

What should we discuss first?

Is an orbital welder the same as a TIG welder?

They overlap, but orbital work adds machine setup. We ask about both.

What should you know before sending tig welder?

When do you pay a recruiting fee?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.

How long does it take to see a short list?

We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.

How do you handle counteroffers?

We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.

What replacement terms apply?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What do you not do?

We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
