The hiring decision

What makes this hire work on your plant floor?

We watch for technicians who adjust many settings at once, those who skip drying checks and those who bypass a safety gate to save time. We also note anyone unable to describe a mold they damaged and what they learned.

Tell us your presses, tonnage range and materials. We approach molding technicians who already run mold changes, startups and process sheets on similar machines.

We watch for technicians who adjust many settings at once, those who skip drying checks and those who bypass a safety gate to save time. We also note anyone unable to describe a mold they damaged and what they learned.

Resins behave differently when wet or contaminated. We ask which materials the person ran, how they dried them and how they handled regrind. Candidates with engineering resins or medical grades should describe controls they followed.

Before an introduction

What do we check before you interview?

Changing a mold safely and bringing it to good parts is the heart of the job. We ask how they handled lifting, water lines, clamping and first shots. A Mold Setter who rushes startup creates scrap and damage, so we ask about a startup that went wrong.

  • Practical qualification

We ask for a process the person built from a new mold, step by step. They should talk about fill, pack, hold, cooling and what they validated. The depth of their account shows whether they really owned it.

  • Presses and auxiliaries

A Molding Technician knows the press, the robot, the dryers, the chillers and the hot runner controller. We ask about tonnage ranges, press makes in general terms and automation.

  • Scientific molding training

Many plants value training in systematic molding, including Master Molder level courses. We ask what the person learned and how they applied it. Training shows method. We also ask about a process they developed and how they documented it.

  • Process sheets and troubleshooting

Flash, short shots, sink and warp each point to different causes. We ask how the person works through each, and what they adjust first. We also ask how they kept the sheet current.

  • Robot and sprue picker setup

Many cells use takeout robots and simple automation. We ask what the candidate programmed and how they handled a crash. If your job needs advanced robot work, we say so and adjust the screen.

  • Safe work

Molding has pinch points, hot surfaces and heavy tooling. We ask about gate guards, lockout, crane use and burn prevention. We note candidates who describe bypassing a safety device, even in the past.

  • Fit versus title, shift and pay

We define yours, then check shift, commute and current pay. Many technicians stay with a plant for years, so we learn what would justify a move.

  • Tooling care and mold protection

A good technician protects the mold. We ask how they cleaned cavities, handled lubricants and recorded shot counts. We also ask what they did when a part stuck. Candidates who respect tooling save significant repair work and rarely cause a crash.

  • Current pay, shift and commute

Molding plants run long shifts and weekends. We confirm rotation, overtime habits and commute in the first call, and we ask what the person earns now. Technicians with steady jobs rarely move without a clear improvement, so we learn what that is.

Direct search

Where are qualified people working now?

Mold makers and mold maintenance people sometimes move into molding technician roles. They know tooling well but may lack process depth. We examine both sides before presenting them.

Custom molders see many tools and materials, and their technicians adapt quickly. We approach them directly. Medical and automotive molders add documentation and validation habits, which suit regulated work.

Plastics technology programs also produce capable graduates with lab press time. We separate those who then worked a production floor from those who did not, and tell you how each group fits.

Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?

Presses and auxiliaries. Candidates who describe the full cell, not just the clamp, have usually owned the process. Process sheets and troubleshooting. People who rely only on a saved sheet struggle when material changes. Fit versus title, shift and pay.

The search

How the search runs?

We start by learning your presses, materials and the level of process ownership you expect. We then approach working technicians, screening for process method, mold changes, automation, safety and logistics. After interviews we gather candid reactions and help close the offer and start.

  1. Agree the brief

We also tell candidates about your press age and automation level, since those details affect satisfaction. Honest descriptions save time for everyone.

  2. Approach relevant people

We start by learning your presses, materials and the level of process ownership you expect. We then approach working technicians, screening for process method, mold changes, automation, safety and logistics. After interviews we gather candid reactions and help close the offer and start.

  3. Qualify the work and support the hire

We ask whether molding technicians own scrap decisions or defer to engineering. Candidates want to know, and the answer shapes who accepts. We confirm whether weekend call-ins are routine, because molding people plan their lives around that and tell us quickly when it will not work.

What else affects this Injection Molding Technician hire?

Is a Mold Setter different from a technician?

Often: We define the scope with you. We ask for a process the person built from a new mold, step by step.

Do you need our tonnage list?

It helps. A general description also works.

Can you find someone for second shift?

Yes: We confirm shift fit first. Mold makers and mold maintenance people sometimes move into molding technician roles.

Do you recruit mold repair technicians as well?

That is a different trade. We run it as a separate mold maker search.

How is the search fee agreed?

The fee is a percentage of first-year base salary, agreed in writing before we start. There is no upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

  1. 1. Search Calibration

You get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone.

  2. 2. Market Mapping

You get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy. We identify the kinds of plants and teams where people already handle comparable equipment, processes and operating demands.

  3. 3. Professional Contact Intelligence

You get a way to reach working people directly. We check professional contact routes and approach candidates discreetly, without making your plant or vacancy public unless you approve.

  4. 4. Persistent Personalized Outreach

You get individual conversations about the actual opening. We explain the work, shift and location, ask whether a move makes sense, and follow up without pretending every person is interested.

  5. 5. Live Candidate Qualification

You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.

  6. 6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.

What should we discuss first?

Do you recruit for medical molding?

Yes: We screen for documentation habits and clean work practice. Candidates with engineering resins or medical grades should describe controls they followed.

What should you know before sending injection molding technician?

When do you pay a recruiting fee?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.

How long does it take to see a short list?

We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.

How do you handle counteroffers?

We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.

What replacement terms apply?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What do you not do?

We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
