The hiring decision
What makes this hire work on your plant floor?
A regional operations leader inherits a problem that no single plant manager can see: five or six sites doing the same job five or six different ways. Your hire has to standardize without flattening what works, and lead plant managers who they see in person only a few days a month.
We search for leaders who have already done that across a comparable footprint and who still know what a good plant looks like when they walk into one.
We ask for the specific practice they rolled out, such as a daily management board, a changeover standard or a maintenance planning cadence, and the plant that pushed back hardest. We want to hear how they decided what became corporate standard and what stayed local.
Remote leadership is a different craft from running a floor. We probe how they run weekly reviews, how they tell when a plant manager is struggling before the numbers show it, and what they do about a site that hides bad news. Often the most telling detail is how they handled replacing a plant manager they had inherited.
Before an introduction
What do we check before you interview?
We discuss the honest calendar, including how many weeks a month they have been on the road and what that did to their last role. A regional leader who loves the idea of travel but has never lived it tends to leave in eighteen months.
Travel tolerance and real schedule
We discuss the honest calendar, including how many weeks a month they have been on the road and what that did to their last role. A regional leader who loves the idea of travel but has never lived it tends to leave in eighteen months. We settle this before introducing anyone to you.
Mix of plant types
We find out whether the candidate has led similar equipment, similar labor models and similar customer demands, or whether they would be learning a new process while also being asked to standardize it.
Alternate titles
This work appears under multi-site operations director, group operations director and cluster plant manager. We read through the title to the scope: number of sites, total headcount, who reports directly and whether they own the regional budget.
Red flags we screen for
We are wary of leaders who describe every plant as a problem they fixed, because regional work depends on respect for local strengths. Another warning sign is a candidate who cannot name the plant managers they developed, or who measures success only by a corporate scorecard. We also check whether a prior region shrank after they left.

Direct search
Where are qualified people working now?
The strongest pools are multi-site manufacturers in your sector whose regional or group leaders are running a footprint similar to yours, and companies that recently consolidated plants and now have capable leaders facing a smaller structure. We also approach members of the continuous improvement and operational excellence community, where regional operators compare notes on standard work and management systems.
Plant managers who have been asked to oversee a neighboring site informally are another useful pool, since they have already begun the transition.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Standardizing practices across plants. Candidates who only describe issuing a playbook rarely held a plant to it. Mix of plant types. Five plants with the same process behave differently from five plants with different processes. Alternate titles. A cluster plant manager with a deputy at each site is quite different from a group director with full plant managers underneath.

The search
How the search runs?
Before you meet anyone, we have checked references with people who worked under them at plant level, because plant managers describe a regional boss more honestly than the boss does. We coordinate interviews, including a plant visit when it helps.
Agree the brief
We begin by walking through your sites, their issues and who the plant managers are, so we understand what the regional leader would inherit.
Approach relevant people
We then approach candidates directly and run structured screens on standardization, remote leadership and travel.

You get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone.
2. Market Mapping
You get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy. We identify the kinds of plants and teams where people already handle comparable equipment, processes and operating demands.
3. Professional Contact Intelligence
You get a way to reach working people directly. We check professional contact routes and approach candidates discreetly, without making your plant or vacancy public unless you approve.
4. Persistent Personalized Outreach
You get individual conversations about the actual opening. We explain the work, shift and location, ask whether a move makes sense, and follow up without pretending every person is interested.
5. Live Candidate Qualification
You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.
6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.

What should you know before sending regional vp of operations?
When do you pay a recruiting fee?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.
How long does it take to see a short list?
We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.
How do you handle counteroffers?
We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.
What replacement terms apply?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do?
We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
