MES Engineer Recruiters
Manufacturing Headhunters recruits manufacturing professionals nationwide.
This is what we do all day: recruit manufacturing professionals.
No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.

The hiring decision
What makes this hire work on your plant floor?
An MES engineer hire is usually triggered by a stalled rollout or a system nobody fully understands: work orders that do not match what the floor actually ran, genealogy that breaks at one station, or a historian full of tags no one trusts.
We search for the person who connects the plant floor to the business layer and can explain the data model to both sides.
modular PLC, manufacturing execution software, plant information software and cloud manufacturing software each have their own architecture and vocabulary. We ask which modules the candidate configured, whether they built production execution, quality, track and trace or scheduling functions, and whether they customized through scripting, workflows or external code.
We ask how the candidate mapped equipment hierarchies, material models and work definitions to the ISA-95 levels, and how they decided which functions belonged in MES versus ERP or the control layer. Strong answers include a real boundary decision that caused arguments with IT or finance, and how it was resolved.
Before an introduction
What do we check before you interview?
We ask how the candidate designed screens for gloved hands and short cycle times, trained shifts, and handled the early period when operators worked around the system. Red flags are rollouts described entirely in terms of go live dates, with nothing about whether the floor kept using it.
Historians and data quality
We ask how they proved a number on a dashboard matched what happened on the line, since an unreliable OEE figure damages the credibility of the whole system.
Floor adoption

Integration with PLCs, ERP and quality systems
We ask how they connected equipment through OPC, how they handled lost connections and store and forward, and how work orders, inventory and quality holds flowed between ERP and MES. The strongest candidates describe a failure mode, such as duplicate transactions, and the design that stopped it.
Change control and validation
Systems in regulated or customer audited plants require documented changes. We ask about test environments, release practices and rollback plans, and for pharma or medical settings, whether they supported computer system validation. We also ask who they relied on when the vendor was slow, and how they documented the answer.

Direct search
Where are qualified people working now?
MES engineers come from plants that completed or are mid way through rollouts, since they have lived the decisions you now face. Peer plants in your process and with your platform are ideal, and so are multi site manufacturers where one engineer supported several lines through a standardized deployment.
We also talk to people at MES software partners and implementation firms who spend their careers configuring other companies' systems. Some want to own a single plant's system rather than travel. Operational technology engineers with strong controls backgrounds are another pool when your need leans toward equipment connectivity. We approach all of them privately and describe your environment before sharing names.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Platform specifics. Someone who administered a user list is not an engineer of the system. Historians and data quality. We probe experience with historians such as PI, including tag naming, compression and deadbands, asset frameworks and the cleanup required when data arrives dirty.

The search
How the search runs?
We then clarify whether you need a rollout leader, a steady state administrator, or an engineer who can fix what was poorly implemented. Candidates are interviewed on platform, ISA-95 reasoning and floor adoption, and you receive a written summary of each conversation.
Agree the brief
We begin by documenting your current state: which system, which modules, where data still lives on spreadsheets and paper, and who owns the relationship with IT and the vendor.

Qualify the work and support the hire
Your controls, IT and operations leads can then probe different angles. The fee is a percentage of first year base, agreed in writing in advance, and nothing is owed unless you hire.

What should you know about open jobs?
What else affects this MES Engineer hire?
Yes: People who run a plant's MES are rarely looking since they are usually mid project. We speak with them about the system they inherited or built, and the scope your role offers, and let them decide if it improves on their current position.
When do I pay you?
Only after a candidate we introduced starts working for you. If your MES search ends without a hire, or you choose someone you found yourself, nothing is owed on our side of the agreement.
Will our MES vendor or staff learn about the search?
Not from us. We describe the plant type and platform without naming your company, and we ask your permission before sharing any detail that could identify you. This matters when the opening exists because a rollout has stalled.
Can you reach MES engineers who are not job hunting?
Yes: People who run a plant's MES are rarely looking since they are usually mid project. We speak with them about the system they inherited or built, and the scope your role offers, and let them decide if it improves on their current position.
Is relocation realistic for MES roles?
Often, yes. Because the pool is small, we plan for it. We ask about housing, schooling and partner careers at the start, and we tell candidates whether any remote or hybrid work is available so expectations match your policy.
Which titles will you search under?
Manufacturing systems engineer, OT engineer and MES analyst are the usual alternates. We also read for automation and IT people who ended up owning production systems. We screen on the platforms and projects they handled rather than the department they sat in.

The Six-Step Search
What do you get before interviewing?
1. Search CalibrationYou get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone. 2. Market MappingYou get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy.
1. Search Calibration
You get a hiring brief that separates the work, reporting authority and non-negotiable requirements. We agree what would make a candidate worth an interview before contacting anyone.
2. Market Mapping
You get a defined search pool, not a reposted vacancy. We identify the kinds of plants and teams where people already handle comparable equipment, processes and operating demands.
3. Professional Contact Intelligence
You get a way to reach working people directly. We check professional contact routes and approach candidates discreetly, without making your plant or vacancy public unless you approve.
4. Persistent Personalized Outreach
You get individual conversations about the actual opening. We explain the work, shift and location, ask whether a move makes sense, and follow up without pretending every person is interested.
5. Live Candidate Qualification
You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.
6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.
What should we discuss first?
What is your fee for an MES engineer search?
A percentage of the first year base salary of the hire, set in writing before the search begins. There is no retainer. We will not add charges for extra rounds of candidates or additional interviews at your site.
What should you know before sending mes engineer?
When do you pay a recruiting fee?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.
How long does it take to see a short list?
We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.
How do you handle counteroffers?
We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.
What replacement terms apply?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do?
We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
