The hiring decision
What makes this hire work on your plant floor?
EO, gamma and steam are different worlds. We confirm which modality the candidate has validated, whether they worked to ISO 11135 for ethylene oxide or ISO 11137 for radiation, and whether they handled product families and adoption of a new product into an existing cycle.
A sterility assurance manager protects the claim printed on the package: the product is sterile. That claim rests on validated sterilization cycles, controlled cleanrooms, environmental monitoring and a microbiology program that notices drift before a failure does. We search for managers who have validated a process under a standard, defended it to an auditor and know what to do when a bioburden trend moves.

We confirm which modality the candidate has validated, whether they worked to ISO 11135 for ethylene oxide or ISO 11137 for radiation, and whether they handled product families and adoption of a new product into an existing cycle. We ask them to walk through a validation from protocol to report.
We ask about ISO 14644 classification, alert and action levels, trend reviews, excursion investigations and personnel gowning controls. We also ask about cleaning agent rotation and how they validated it.
Before an introduction
What do we check before you interview?
Bioburden and microbiology depthIf the candidate relied on a contract lab, we ask how they audited it and who reviewed the data. Revalidation and change controlSterility depends on stability. We ask about periodic dose audits, requalification, packaging changes and loading pattern changes.

Revalidation and change control
Sterility depends on stability. We ask about periodic dose audits, requalification, packaging changes and loading pattern changes. Candidates who understand why a seemingly small change can alter sterilant penetration or dose distribution give the most reliable answers.
Working with a contract sterilizer
Many device makers outsource sterilization, so the manager owns the relationship. We ask how they handled routine release, nonconformances, residuals testing and audits of the provider.
Audit and regulator exposure
We ask how they supported FDA inspections and notified body audits, and how they documented sterilization decisions. Questions about parametric release, if relevant, help separate mature programs from a minimal compliance approach.

Where are qualified people working now?
Our current sources for this role are device manufacturers with in-house or outsourced sterilization programs, contract sterilizers that run validated cycles for many customers, and microbiologists or process engineers who spent years supporting sterility assurance and are ready to hold the title. The best candidates already own a validation record.
We match modality and product family first, since a candidate steeped in radiation does not automatically fit an ethylene oxide program. We contact them directly and explain the product type and the sterilization approach.
We also look at validation and process engineers inside device companies who supported sterilization transfers between sites, because moving a product to a new sterilizer teaches the discipline of equivalence. Another group is microbiologists from contract testing labs who know bioburden and endotoxin methods thoroughly and want authority over decisions that currently belong to someone else. We are open with them about whether the role is hands-on or primarily oversight, since that choice changes who will say yes.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Cleanroom and environmental monitoring discipline. A strong candidate explains what they changed after a trend, not only that they monitored. Working with a contract sterilizer. We also check how they dealt with capacity or scheduling pressure without compromising a hold decision.

The search
How the search runs?
We open with a conversation about your products, sterilization method, facilities, validation status and audit exposure. We want to know whether you are building a program, repairing one or maintaining one, because the right candidate differs. Screening covers modality, validation ownership, environmental monitoring trends and contract provider management.

Approach relevant people
You receive written summaries with verified details and open questions. We arrange interviews that include a case discussion drawn from your products, and we call references among quality and operations leaders who worked with the candidate. Our fee is a percentage of first-year base salary, agreed in writing before the start date, and it is owed only if you hire.
Qualify the work and support the hire
Where your program depends on a contract sterilizer, we ask candidates how they would handle a failed routine release and an urgent customer order at the same time. We want to hear the order of decisions, who they would call and what they would put in writing. That scenario is more telling than a list of standards, and we share the full answer with you.

How do you charge for a sterility assurance manager search?
A percentage of the manager's first-year base salary, set in writing before the person starts. It excludes bonus, so you can plan the budget from the base you intend to offer.
Will our sterilization process details remain confidential?
Yes: We describe your business as a device maker of a certain type until a candidate is qualified and agrees to a conversation. Cycle parameters, product names and provider relationships stay private until you approve.
Can you find candidates who are not looking?
Yes: Sterility assurance specialists are scarce and usually employed. We contact them directly, describe the modality and the program scope, and leave the decision to them.
Will candidates relocate for this role?
Some will, especially for a program with ownership. Others need a location near a particular provider or a hub. We raise it early so you can decide whether to hire locally or widen the pool.
Which alternate titles are in scope?
Sterilization Manager and Sterilization Engineer both count, alongside microbiology and validation leads who carried sterility assurance. We evaluate the validations they own, not the label.

5. Live Candidate Qualification
You get evidence of fit before spending interview time. We talk through decisions, equipment, results and reasons for moving, then distinguish direct experience from skills that would need support.

You get a focused short list with the information behind it. We explain motivation, practical constraints and concerns, support interviews, and keep offer decisions with your hiring team.
What should we discuss first?
When is payment due?
Only after a sterility assurance manager we presented accepts your offer and starts. Screening, case discussions and references cost nothing if you do not hire.
What should you know before sending sterility assurance manager?
When do you pay a recruiting fee?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the fee basis and payment terms. Sending an opening does not itself commit you to a fee or an exclusive arrangement.
How long does it take to see a short list?
We discuss the search conditions before describing a realistic next step. Shift, location, equipment match and the candidate's reasons for moving all matter. We do not promise a shortlist date before understanding the opening.
How do you handle counteroffers?
We ask what is driving the move before introducing a candidate. We discuss what might change if the current employer offers more money or a different job. Your team still decides whether that person's motivation fits the opening.
What replacement terms apply?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do?
We do not bill hourly for a standard permanent search, repost a job-board ad as a search, or supply high-volume general labor. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
