The hiring decision

What matters for this job

Tell us your cell format, process steps and dry room rules. We find battery technicians who already run electrode, assembly or formation work.

Dry rooms control moisture, which harms cells. We ask how the person worked in low-humidity areas, how they handled gowning and what comfort they have with the environment. Some people find it hard. We ask honestly.

Electrode work includes slurry mixing, coating and calendering. We ask what the candidate ran, how they checked coat weight and thickness and what they did when a defect appeared. Electrode Technician experience varies by step, so we match carefully.

Before an introduction

What we discuss with candidates

We talk with candidates about jobs they have done, why they are interested and whether the location and shift work for them. We tell you what they have shared and what still needs checking in your interviews.

  • Cell assembly and formation

Formation and aging involve cycling equipment and data. We ask which steps the person ran and what they monitored. Cell Assembly Operators should describe quality checks plainly.

  • High-voltage and chemical safety

We ask about training, lockout and response to a thermal event. We note anyone casual about it.

  • Credentials and their limits

Safety training for high-voltage work is common. Program certificates exist but the industry is young. We value floor time in comparable processes more than any single card.

  • Fit versus title

Battery Manufacturing Technician can mean a specialist in one step or a generalist. We separate them. We also separate cell work from pack assembly.

  • Shift, commute and current pay

Many plants are new and run several shifts. We confirm rotation, commute and relocation, and we ask what candidates earn now. We tell you early where your offer stands.

  • Red flags

We also note instability in past roles without reasons.

  • Practical qualification

We ask the candidate to walk through a shift in their step of the process: setup, checks, running, defects and handoff. We listen for real numbers they tracked, without asking for figures. We also ask about a problem they escalated and how it ended.

  • Equipment and materials

Cell plants use mixers, coaters, dryers, calenders, winders, stackers, fillers and cyclers. We ask which the person ran and what materials they handled. Handling of solvents, powders and electrolytes needs care, and we ask about the controls used.

  • Quality and traceability

Cell quality depends on tight records. We ask how the person tracked lots, marked defects and handled nonconforming material. Candidates who value traceability fit well in new plants building systems.

  • Why process stability matters

Battery cells punish small shifts in the process. We ask how the person noticed drift, what they checked first and how they communicated with quality. Technicians who see the line as one connected system, from slurry to formation, are the most valuable.

  • Why training and growth matter

New plants need people who can teach others. We ask whether the candidate trained peers, wrote work instructions or helped launch a line. Technicians who help build the plant culture often become leads, which matters for plans to scale.

  • Is relocation common?

Often: We discuss it openly early.

Direct search

Where we find people

Battery cell and pack plants hold the closest matches. We approach working technicians directly and explain your product and process.

Adjacent process technicians from semiconductor, film coating and chemical plants also bring useful skills. Coating, cleanroom and chemical handling carry over. We assess the gaps honestly and tell you what we learn.

Because the industry is young, many good candidates are cross-trained. We ask them to describe the transfer of skills in detail. People who can explain why coating on film is like coating electrodes usually adapt well.

Technicians from lithium-ion pack and module lines can also fit in cell plants if they want upstream work. Their safety habits and quality records carry over. We examine what they know about cell process steps and tell you the gap.

Common hiring mistakes

  • Red flags. We watch for people who ignore moisture rules, who cannot describe a quality escape and who brush off safety.
  • Cell assembly and formation. Assembly includes stacking or winding, filling and sealing.
  • High-voltage and chemical safety. Batteries bring electrical, chemical and thermal hazards.

What else affects this Battery Cell Production Technician hire?

Can a coating technician move to batteries?

Often, with a clear view of gaps. Adjacent process technicians from semiconductor, film coating and chemical plants also bring useful skills.

Is dry room experience required?

Preferred. We flag gaps.

Do you cover night shifts?

Yes: We confirm fit first. Many plants are new and run several shifts.

Do you recruit for formation and aging?

Yes: We separate it from electrode work in the screen. Formation and aging involve cycling equipment and data.

How is the search fee agreed?

The fee is a percentage of first-year base salary, agreed in writing before we start. There is no upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

Questions about your opening

Do you recruit for pack assembly?

Yes, as a separate search from cell work. We also separate cell work from pack assembly.

Questions employers ask

When do you pay a recruiting fee?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. We agree the fee basis and payment terms in writing before starting. Sending the form does not commit you to a search.

How long does it take to see a short list?

It depends on the job, location and people available. We discuss next steps after learning about your opening, rather than promising a date before we know the job.

How do you handle counteroffers?

We ask why candidates want to move and what could change their minds. We keep that conversation going through interviews and the offer.

What replacement terms apply?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What do you not do?

We do not supply high-volume general labor or bill hourly for a standard permanent search. Retainers are not the default. Any different arrangement must be agreed in writing.
