What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?
For Logistics Manager, clarify the base pay before discussing call-outs, travel or extra shifts. OEWS includes base rate, guaranteed pay and production incentive pay. It excludes overtime premium, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure.
Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.
Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.
What should you know about two BLS releases?
| Release period | 25th | Median | 75th |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 2024 | $78,360 | $102,010 | $136,050 |
| May 2025 | $82,440 | $107,230 | $146,770 |
These are two separate BLS estimates from different survey panels. The workers and employers behind them differ, so the gap is not like-for-like pay for the same workers and is not a growth rate. We show no percentage change.
Recruiter's read. Qualitative, not BLS data.
What should you know about union and nonunion environments?
Where drivers or dock staff are represented, a logistics manager must understand contract language on overtime, scheduling and job classifications. In nonunion settings the manager may have more flexibility but must still manage turnover and safety. We ask which environment the candidate knows and how they handled a dispute, because jumping between the two requires adjustment.
Private fleet experience is a separate skill from managing outside carriers.
What should you know about questions?
Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.
What is the median pay for a Logistics Manager?

What does the 10th percentile mean here?
10% of workers in this occupation and area earned less than $65,120. 90% earned less than $194,900.
Does this include overtime or bonuses?

What does this data mean for your opening?
The middle-band width for this occupation is $64,330, defined by the P25 of $82,440 and the P75 of $146,770. This range signifies a market that values significant experience levels, as managers overseeing complex logistics networks are clustered in the upper quartiles.
Logistics Managers, responsible for freight, TMS management, and 3PL, fall under the SOC 11-3071, Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers. This category is broad, capturing diverse management roles across transport, warehousing, and supply chain departments. Manufacturing Headhunters advises that because this definition includes so many different management layers, the national median of $107,230 acts as a baseline, representing an increase of $5,220 over the May 2024 median of $102,010. Hiring managers should expect that high-level freight procurement roles often exceed these figures.
The middle-band width for this occupation is $64,330, defined by the P25 of $82,440 and the P75 of $146,770. This range signifies a market that values significant experience levels, as managers overseeing complex logistics networks are clustered in the upper quartiles. The P10 of $65,120 and P90 of $194,900 define the extremes, demonstrating that compensation is highly variable based on the scale of the distribution network. Keep in mind that these numbers represent base pay and exclude the performance bonuses and variable incentives typically found in supply chain leadership.
Metropolitan employment data provides a view of high-concentration regions. The Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA metro area lists a median of $127,500, a move from the prior $104,600. The New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ area shows a median of $133,640, compared to $127,600 in the prior release. The location quotient is 1.37 in Los Angeles versus 0.77 in New York. These location quotients reflect the concentration of this job title in the local labor market, not the ease of hiring or specific local wage mandates.
Industry-specific national data provides a clearer picture of value in complex manufacturing. Engine, Turbine, and Power Transmission Equipment Manufacturing reports a median of $160,620, Semiconductor and Other Electronic Component Manufacturing lists $148,380, and Motor Vehicle Manufacturing reports $147,200. These figures are all notably higher than the $107,230 national occupational median. These rows are better indicators of market compensation for logistics roles in high-stakes environments, as they better reflect the premium for managers who handle complex transport needs in demanding manufacturing settings.
Which pay questions should you settle before hiring?
Why is there such a large gap between the P10 and P90?
You must focus on the P75 and P90 if your role involves high-level strategic freight management.
How do these national medians assist in setting salary for a regional role?
The national medians serve as a normalized reference point. When localized for your specific market, compare your internal policy against both the national sectoral benchmark and the metropolitan regional data provided.
Do these figures change based on candidate experience levels?
The BLS data does not track experience levels, only total wage reports. The P10 to P90 range is a statistical proxy for that experience, but it does not represent a pay-for-experience grade system.
