What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?
For CIP Technician, write the straight-time rate separately from shift coverage and extra hours. OEWS measures straight-time gross wages, not pure base salary or total compensation. It includes base rate, guaranteed pay, commissions and production bonuses. It excludes overtime, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses and benefits.
An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure. Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.
Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.
What should you know about two BLS releases?
| Release period | 25th | Median | 75th |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 2024 | $35,080 | $38,820 | $47,550 |
| May 2025 | $36,030 | $40,110 | $49,010 |
These are two separate BLS estimates from different survey panels. The workers and employers behind them differ, so the gap is not like-for-like pay for the same workers and is not a growth rate. We show no percentage change.
What should you know about supervisory and worker occupations?
BLS publishes these as separate occupations. Pay for one is not a pay step for the other.
- Supervisor occupation: Production Supervisor pay (SOC 51-1011)
Recruiter's read. Qualitative, not BLS data.
What should you know about practical qualification?
A candidate is ready when they can read a cycle chart and say whether it passed, and why. We ask them to describe a chart that looked wrong. People who answer with detail know the system. People who say it just ran are not ready for independent work.
What should you know about questions?
Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.
What is the median pay for a CIP Technician?
The median annual wage for Production Workers, All Other in the United States was $40,110 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, OEWS, May 2025). The middle half of workers earned between $36,030 and $49,010. This is the closest proxy BLS publishes, not a figure for this exact title.
What does the 10th percentile mean here?
10% of workers in this occupation and area earned less than $31,200. 90% earned less than $61,530.
Does this include overtime or bonuses?
Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.
Is this the pay for a CIP Technician at a plant?
The CIP Technician title maps to the published occupation. BLS does not separate this process, credential, shift or plant-specific title from other work in the occupation. These are occupation estimates across all industries, not an offer for a particular manufacturing title.
How many people work in this occupation?
BLS estimated 251,700 workers employed in this occupation in the United States.
What should you know about related?
What does this data mean for your opening?
Manufacturing Headhunters reviews the national role of CIP Technician under the broader BLS occupation 51-9199, Production Workers, All Other. The national median for this occupation is $40,110 per year as of May 2025. For CIP Technician in the United States, releases are separate survey estimates. The May 2025 median is $40,110; the May 2024 median is $38,820.
Their arithmetic difference is $1,290. They are not the same workers' raises and do not establish a pay trend or its cause. The middle-band width, representing the spread between P25 and P75, is $12,980. Pay structures often vary significantly by industry, as seen in the national industry median for Tobacco Manufacturing at $77,630, Pulp, Paper, and Paperboard Mills at $68,720, and Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing at $59,620. For CIP Technician in the United States, OEWS measures straight-time gross wages, not pure base salary or total compensation. Commissions and production bonuses are included; overtime, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses and benefits are excluded.
The employment profile for this occupation across the two highest-employing metros demonstrates distinct regional variances. The Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA, area reports a median annual wage of $39,520, which sits below the national median. The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA, area shows a median annual wage of $40,970, slightly above the national figure. It is important to note that BLS data for these roles does not differentiate by specialized plant-specific titles or the complexity of HMI valve matrices. These reports provide a broad cross-section of the entire occupation rather than isolated data for sanitization cycle controllers.
Recruiters must distinguish between employment concentration and pay levels, as location quotient simply measures density. The P25 to P75 range provides the most reliable expectation for candidate benchmarking, avoiding the skew of extreme outliers at the low or high ends of the distribution. Compensation for CIP technicians often includes hourly overtime, which the annual BLS figures aggregate, potentially masking the true weekly earning potential of a technical shift role. Hiring teams should account for the specific technical requirements for chemical safety and verification processes that often command higher compensation than the baseline for this occupation code.
Which pay questions should you settle before hiring?
These figures reflect historical Bureau of Labor Statistics data rather than active employer offers. For CIP Technician in the United States, releases are separate survey estimates. The May 2025 median is $40,110; the May 2024 median is $38,820. Their arithmetic difference is $1,290.
How should hiring managers interpret the industry-specific medians provided?
These represent national benchmarks for those sectors and serve as reference points for competitive positioning. They do not account for local market pressure or individual plant requirements.
Does the national occupation median reflect the specific duties of a CIP Technician?
No, because the SOC 51-9199 includes many unrelated production roles. It provides a generalized baseline rather than a precision match for cycle control duties.
Are the supplied compensation amounts guaranteed offers for new hires?
These figures reflect historical Bureau of Labor Statistics data rather than active employer offers. For CIP Technician in the United States, releases are separate survey estimates. The May 2025 median is $40,110; the May 2024 median is $38,820. Their arithmetic difference is $1,290. They are not the same workers' raises and do not establish a pay trend or its cause.
