What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?
For National Account Manager, separate the guaranteed salary from any discretionary bonus or commission arrangement. OEWS includes base rate, guaranteed pay and production incentive pay. It excludes overtime premium, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure.
Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.
Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.
What should you know about two BLS releases?
| Release period | 25th | Median | 75th |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 2024 | $95,910 | $138,060 | $201,490 |
| May 2025 | $100,360 | $148,270 | $207,340 |
These are two separate BLS estimates from different survey panels. The workers and employers behind them differ, so the gap is not like-for-like pay for the same workers and is not a growth rate. We show no percentage change.
Recruiter's read. Qualitative, not BLS data.
What should you know about a move that can hold up?
Someone working in national account managers working with multi-site industrial buyers needs a clear reason to leave. Explain how your opening changes their responsibility for customer relationships spanning multiple facilities or purchasing centers. If the answer depends on authority over customer relationships spanning multiple facilities or purchasing centers that you cannot offer, that mismatch belongs in the conversation before an offer.
What should you know about questions?
Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.
What is the median pay for a National Account Manager?

What does this data mean for your opening?
National Account Managers are mapped to the broad SOC 11-2022, resulting in a national median of $148,270. This reflects a $10,210 increase from the $138,060 median in May 2024. The middle-band width remains significant at $106,980, with a P25 of $100,360 and a P75 of $207,340. These figures cover 637,080 total employees.
These benchmarks are strictly base-inclusive summaries and do not incorporate specific performance incentives or secondary benefits often included in total compensation for national-level roles.
Metropolitan comparison shows New York-Newark-Jersey City with a median of $215,150 and Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim with $132,330. The medianChange for New York was $3,480, and for Los Angeles it was $5,540. These differences indicate how local industrial demand shapes pay. These amounts are annual figures and do not translate to hourly rates. Manufacturing Headhunters advises that these regional differences reflect high occupational concentration rather than a standardized, flat pay structure for national roles.
Sector-specific pay reveals higher medians in proven manufacturing. Computer and Peripheral Equipment Manufacturing peaks at $215,500, followed by Semiconductor manufacturing at $200,050 and Pharmaceuticals at $194,160. These are national industry medians and do not account for regional cost of living. Because the BLS does not distinguish National Account Managers from general sales management, these industry rows provide the best indicators of where high-value, complex supply chain roles reside.
This role requires a contract-focused mindset capable of reconciling different site requirements. Unlike regional sales managers, the national account manager handles organizational supply and service obligations. The mapping of this role to a broader SOC means that the hiring manager must look at the middle-band width and adjust based on technical expertise. The location quotient in these major hubs confirms that these positions are found in large manufacturing concentrations, but the data does not offer guarantees regarding candidate availability or willingness to relocate.
Which pay questions should you settle before hiring?
Why is the middle-band width so broad at $106,980?
The band reflects the wide range of seniority, product complexity, and sales volume inherent in the broad Sales Managers occupation. It accounts for the bottom 25% and top 25% of earners in the category.
How should I interpret the industry-specific medians?
These figures are national medians for the specified industry NAICS codes. They represent high-value sectors that align with complex product sales.
Is the medianChange guaranteed for all managers?
No, the medianChange of $10,210 is an aggregate movement across the entire occupation in the BLS survey. It is not an indicator of individual wage growth.
