What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?

For Quality Supervisor, clarify the base pay before discussing call-outs, travel or extra shifts. OEWS includes base rate, guaranteed pay and production incentive pay. It excludes overtime premium, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure.

Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.

Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.

What should you know about two BLS releases?

Quality Supervisor in the United States, annual wages, May 2024 and May 2025
Release period25thMedian75th
May 2024$94,620$121,440$156,330
May 2025$98,160$126,060$161,880

These are two separate BLS estimates from different survey panels. The workers and employers behind them differ, so the gap is not like-for-like pay for the same workers and is not a growth rate. We show no percentage change.

What should you know about the authority you are offering?

Settle team supervision versus ownership of certification and regulatory strategy before outreach begins. We put the difference around team supervision versus ownership of certification and regulatory strategy in front of you so the interview tests missing experience rather than assuming it is already there.

What should you know about questions?

Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.

What is the median pay for a Quality Supervisor?

What does the 10th percentile mean here?

10% of workers in this occupation and area earned less than $78,000. 90% earned less than $205,520.

Does this include overtime or bonuses?

What does this data mean for your opening?

The Quality Supervisor role is mapped to the broader Industrial Production Managers (11-3051) category, encompassing 246,250 professionals nationwide. Because this mapping includes general production management, it does not isolate supervisory duties specifically for quality departments. The national median stands at $126,060, marking a $4,620 rise from the $121,440 reported in May 2024.

The middle band width for this occupation is $63,720, defined by a P25 of $98,160 and a P75 of $161,880. Manufacturing Headhunters observes that quality supervisory roles are essential for maintaining inspection standards, though compensation varies widely based on specific plant duties and technical requirements.

National industry benchmarks provide necessary context. Petroleum and Coal Products Manufacturing reports a median of $155,730, and Iron and Steel Mills and Ferroalloy Manufacturing reports $145,280. These figures represent national sector medians and do not account for local labor market conditions. The BLS data set excludes benefits such as profit sharing and performance bonuses, which often make up a substantial part of compensation for supervisors overseeing quality standards on the factory floor.

Regional data further illustrates compensation differences. The Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA area shows a median of $128,540 with a middle band width of $63,060. Meanwhile, the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN area reports a median of $129,840 and a middle band width of $61,100. Employment concentration, or location quotient, stands at 0.92 in Los Angeles and 1.24 in Chicago, showing that these areas have high demand for production leadership. It is important to note that the broader SOC definition covers various responsibilities, so supervisors with specialized quality audit duties may fall on the higher end of these published ranges.

Which pay questions should you settle before hiring?

How does the $126,060 national median relate to a specific Quality Supervisor role?

This median represents a broad group of production managers, not just quality supervisors. It should serve as a macro reference point rather than an exact salary target for your specific headcount.

Do the industry-specific medians change for local markets?

Industry medians reported are national averages and do not change based on the plant's geography. Local adjustments require comparing the regional metro data provided.

What explains the high middle band width for this role?

The band reflects the diverse experience levels and scope of authority among the 246,250 individuals captured in this broad occupation. You should expect this spread when hiring for different levels of supervisory experience.
