What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?

For Regulatory Compliance Manager, clarify the base pay before discussing call-outs, travel or extra shifts. OEWS includes base rate, guaranteed pay and production incentive pay. It excludes overtime premium, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure.

Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.

Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.

What should you know about two BLS releases?

Release period25thMedian75th
May 2024$59,130$78,420$104,800

These are two separate BLS estimates from different survey panels. The workers and employers behind them differ, so the gap is not like-for-like pay for the same workers and is not a growth rate. We show no percentage change.

Recruiter's read. Qualitative, not BLS data.

What should you know about the actual remit?

Write down who is accountable for manufacturing compliance obligations and the evidence behind inspection readiness today. That explanation helps separate their capability from a team's success at manufacturing compliance obligations and the evidence behind inspection readiness.

What should you know about questions?

Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.

What is the median pay for a Regulatory Compliance Manager?

The median annual wage for Compliance Officers in the United States was $80,730 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, OEWS, May 2025). The middle half of workers earned between $61,280 and $109,010. This is the broader occupation BLS publishes, not a figure for this exact title.

What does the 10th percentile mean here?

10% of workers in this occupation and area earned less than $48,220. 90% earned less than $133,720.

Does this include overtime or bonuses?

What does this data mean for your opening?

The Regulatory Compliance Manager role is mapped to the broader Compliance Officers category (13-1041), which tracks 417,070 professionals. This broad occupational grouping includes diverse roles and does not offer a specific manufacturing-only compensation metric. Manufacturing Headhunters observes that industry-specific expertise in plant-level operational compliance often commands premiums not fully reflected in broader BLS aggregates.

The national median for this occupation is $80,730 as of the May 2025 release, reflecting a $2,310 increase from the $78,420 recorded in May 2024. The middle band width for this occupation is $47,730, spanning from the P25 ($61,280) to the P75 ($109,010).

National industry-specific benchmarks reveal distinct pay variations. In the Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing sector, the median reaches $123,240, while Metalworking Machinery Manufacturing sits at $115,780. Navigational, Measuring, Electromedical, and Control Instruments Manufacturing reports a median of $105,890. These industry figures are national benchmarks and are not adjusted for local cost of living or specific plant geography. Data provided by BLS excludes critical non-monetary pay components such as stock options, sign-on bonuses, and performance-based incentive structures.

Comparative data from two major employment hubs provides context for the role. New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ shows a median of $101,050 with a middle band width of $53,130, while Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA lists a median of $94,810 and a middle band width of $52,980. These figures illustrate the impact of regional labor market demands on this occupation. The location quotient in New York is 0.92, whereas Los Angeles is 1.05, representing concentration rather than specific candidate availability. These broad SOC classifications often mask the nuanced plant floor duties, such as ensuring ongoing operational compliance versus the high-level regulatory strategy usually managed at headquarters.

Which pay questions should you settle before hiring?

Does the $80,730 national median accurately reflect my specific plant needs?

The median comes from the broader 13-1041 classification, which covers many industries outside of manufacturing. It serves as a baseline rather than a reflection of specific plant-level compliance roles.

How do industry-specific medians like $123,240 differ from the overall $80,730 figure?

These industry-specific rows reflect national wages within that specific NAICS sector, illustrating higher competition for compliance expertise in those fields. These numbers are separate from the broader occupational median which combines all sectors.

What components are missing from these salary figures?

The BLS reports base salary compensation only and does not track bonuses, stock options, or deferred compensation. You must account for these variable components to build a complete total compensation package.
