What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?
For Sanitation Supervisor, separate the guaranteed salary from any discretionary bonus or commission arrangement. OEWS includes base rate, guaranteed pay and production incentive pay. It excludes overtime premium, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure.
Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.
Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.
What should you know about two BLS releases?
| Release period | 25th | Median | 75th |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 2024 | $94,620 | $121,440 | $156,330 |
| May 2025 | $98,160 | $126,060 | $161,880 |
These are two separate BLS estimates from different survey panels. The workers and employers behind them differ, so the gap is not like-for-like pay for the same workers and is not a growth rate. We show no percentage change.
Recruiter's read. Qualitative, not BLS data.
What should you know about a move that can hold up?
Someone working in sanitation supervisors from inspected food and protein plants needs a clear reason to leave. If the answer depends on authority over sanitation crews executing approved cleaning and verification work that you cannot offer, that mismatch belongs in the conversation before an offer.
What should you know about questions?
Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.
What is the median pay for a Sanitation Supervisor?

What does the 10th percentile mean here?
10% of workers in this occupation and area earned less than $78,000. 90% earned less than $205,520.
Does this include overtime or bonuses?

What does this data mean for your opening?
Manufacturing Headhunters reviews the Sanitation Supervisor role via the Industrial Production Managers SOC category. The national median for this role is $126,060 as of May 2025, showing growth from $121,440 in May 2024. Certain industries like Petroleum and Coal Products Manufacturing ($155,730) and Iron and Steel Mills ($145,280) show medians substantially above this national mark.
These sectoral variations are crucial for Sanitation Supervisors, as the complexity of cleaning and safety compliance varies significantly between general assembly plants and hazardous material or food-safety intensive environments.
The national P25 to P75 middle-band width is $63,720, ranging from $98,160 to $161,880. Regional hub data for Los Angeles and Chicago shows medians of $128,540 and $129,840 respectively. These figures are generally higher than the national median, indicating sound demand for this type of operational leadership in high-concentration industrial areas. These medians reflect base cash pay and do not include the significant additional pay found in night-shift premiums or extra bonuses common in 24/7 sanitation departments where cleaning is performed during downtime.
The Sanitation Supervisor focuses on crew execution and ensuring that pre-operational safety checks pass. This includes adjusting cleaning plans when failures occur, rather than managing the entire food safety program. The role is operational and shift-focused. Since BLS uses a broad category for all industrial production managers, the data for this SOC is representative of this level of supervision. It should be noted that these figures are a national aggregate, and market-specific pay is further influenced by the stringency of industry-specific regulations and the actual headcount of the sanitation crew being supervised.
