What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?

For Senior Production Planner, separate the guaranteed salary from any discretionary bonus or commission arrangement. OEWS measures straight-time gross wages, not pure base salary or total compensation. It includes base rate, guaranteed pay, commissions and production bonuses. It excludes overtime, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses and benefits.

An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure. Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.

Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.

What should you know about two BLS releases?

Senior Production Planner in the United States, annual wages, May 2024 and May 2025
Release period25thMedian75th
May 2024$78,360$102,010$136,050
May 2025$82,440$107,230$146,770

These are two separate BLS estimates from different survey panels. The workers and employers behind them differ, so the gap is not like-for-like pay for the same workers and is not a growth rate. We show no percentage change.

Recruiter's read. Qualitative, not BLS data.

What should you know about the decision behind the experience?

The useful evidence is a plan showing the tradeoff between a shortage and a competing customer requirement, not a list of equipment or projects. Discuss what information was available during a plan showing the tradeoff between a shortage and a competing customer requirement.

A clear explanation exposes independent planning judgment rather than a renamed daily scheduling job much better than asking whether the candidate has held the title before.

What should you know about questions?

Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.

What is the median pay for a Senior Production Planner?

The median annual wage for Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers in the United States was $107,230 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, OEWS, May 2025). The middle half of workers earned between $82,440 and $146,770. This is the broader occupation BLS publishes, not a figure for this exact title.

What does the 10th percentile mean here?

10% of workers in this occupation and area earned less than $65,120. 90% earned less than $194,900.

Does this include overtime or bonuses?

Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.

Is this the pay for a Senior Production Planner at a plant?

Senior Production Planner is shown within the broader published occupation. BLS does not separate this plant-specific title, seniority, shift, process or credential. Compare the duties with the SOC definition before using the range. These are occupation estimates across all industries, not an offer for a particular manufacturing title.

What does this data mean for your opening?

The national median for Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers is $107,230 annually. Senior production planners managing complex production constraints fall under this BLS classification. For Senior Production Planner in the United States, releases are separate survey estimates. The May 2025 median is $107,230; the May 2024 median is $102,010. Their arithmetic difference is $5,220.

They are not the same workers' raises and do not establish a pay trend or its cause. The total middle band width is $64,330, highlighting the compensation variance across the broader occupation.

National manufacturing industry medians include $160,620 in Engine, Turbine, and Power Transmission Equipment Manufacturing and $147,200 in Motor Vehicle Manufacturing. Semiconductor and Other Electronic Component Manufacturing reports a median of $148,380. These figures provide a national industry perspective. For Senior Production Planner in the United States, OEWS measures straight-time gross wages, not pure base salary or total compensation. Commissions and production bonuses are included; overtime, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses and benefits are excluded.

The highest employment metros serve as comparison points for this role. Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim shows a median of $127,500, while the New York-Newark-Jersey City metro reports a median of $133,640. The location quotient for these areas reflects the concentration of these roles, not local labor market availability. Because this SOC is broad, it aggregates many logistics and production planning duties that differ from purely tactical scheduling functions.

Which pay questions should you settle before hiring?

Does this SOC match the seniority of a Senior Production Planner?

The SOC 11-3071 is a comprehensive category for various logistics and distribution management roles. It does not explicitly account for title-specific seniority or plant-level production planning expertise.

How is the middle band width determined for this role?

The middle band width is calculated by finding the difference between the 75th and 25th percentiles of the provided BLS dataset. This simple arithmetic range shows how much compensation fluctuates within the occupation.

Why are there no local wage estimates provided?

Manufacturing Headhunters utilizes provided regional and national data to avoid creating unverified estimates. We prioritize the accuracy of the existing BLS figures over speculative local market pricing.
