What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?
For Senior EHS Manager, clarify the base pay before discussing call-outs, travel or extra shifts. OEWS includes base rate, guaranteed pay and production incentive pay. It excludes overtime premium, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure.
Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.
Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.
What should you know about two BLS releases?
| Release period | 25th | Median | 75th |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 2024 | $100,010 | $136,550 | $179,190 |
| May 2025 | $102,880 | $141,900 | $186,300 |
These are two separate BLS estimates from different survey panels. The workers and employers behind them differ, so the gap is not like-for-like pay for the same workers and is not a growth rate. We show no percentage change.
Recruiter's read. Qualitative, not BLS data.
What should you know about the decision behind the experience?
The useful evidence is an EHS control negotiated into an actual production change, not a list of equipment or projects. A clear explanation exposes senior operating responsibility rather than a title substituting for relevant hazard experience much better than asking whether the candidate has held the title before.
What should you know about questions?
Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.
What is the median pay for a Senior EHS Manager?

What does the 10th percentile mean here?
10% of workers in this occupation and area earned less than $74,300. 90% earned less than $238,270.
Does this include overtime or bonuses?
Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.
Is this the pay for a Senior EHS Manager at a plant?
Senior EHS Manager is shown within the broader published occupation. BLS does not separate this plant-specific title, seniority, shift, process or credential. Compare the duties with the SOC definition before using the range. These are occupation estimates across all industries, not an offer for a particular manufacturing title.
How many people work in this occupation?
BLS estimated 622,190 workers employed in this occupation in the United States.
What should you know about related?
What does this data mean for your opening?
The national median for the broader management occupation is $141,900, with a $5,350 change from the previous $136,550 baseline. The middle-band width is $83,420, with 25th and 75th percentiles at $102,880 and $186,300. There are 622,190 jobs within the SOC. Manufacturing Headhunters highlights that annual BLS wage data excludes bonuses, equity, and non-cash perks.
These figures serve as a general baseline rather than a precise fit for senior management roles.
Washington-Arlington-Alexandria shows a median of $170,980 with a middle-band width of $43,200. New York-Newark-Jersey City reports a median of $169,800 and a middle-band width of $89,320. The high location quotient of 3.35 in Washington indicates a dense hub for management functions. The varying middle-band widths demonstrate that compensation expectations are highly dependent on the local market and the specific organization's scale.
National industry statistics for sectors like Navigational, Measuring, Electromedical, and Control Instruments Manufacturing ($202,090) and Semiconductor manufacturing ($197,920) are significantly higher than the national median. These figures provide a clear expectation for high-end manufacturing. Since the BLS does not distinguish senior EHS management from other roles in these categories, use this information cautiously. The data reflects the broad range of management roles found within these sophisticated industrial sectors.
Which pay questions should you settle before hiring?
How should I map this senior title to the broad SOC code?
Because the SOC 11-9199 is broad, it is necessary to compare the daily responsibilities with the manager definition provided by the BLS. This ensures the baseline data is relevant to your specific senior EHS role.
Why is the middle-band width so wide in New York?
A wide middle-band width indicates significant variation in pay for management roles in the region. This is likely due to the diversity of companies and organizational structures present in the metro.
Do the industry-specific medians account for experience?
No, the BLS industry data does not distinguish based on seniority or years of experience. The figures represent the overall wage distribution for all managers within those specific industrial sectors.
