What should you know about manufacturing pay mix?

For Industrial Electrician, write the straight-time rate separately from shift coverage and extra hours. OEWS measures straight-time gross wages, not pure base salary or total compensation. It includes base rate, guaranteed pay, commissions and production bonuses. It excludes overtime, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses and benefits.

An attendance bonus is not a production bonus; confirm its purpose and treatment rather than adding every bonus to the BLS figure. Skills-based pay steps affect the base rate when they are part of straight-time pay; BLS does not publish a separate rate for each plant's skill grade. Ask whether a tool allowance is expense reimbursement or wage pay. OEWS does not publish a separate tool-allowance component. Keep these items separate in the offer so the published wage is not mistaken for the whole package.

Pay mix here means how published medians for this one BLS occupation differ across manufacturing industries and against the all-industry median. It does not split pay into base, incentive or overtime. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay and exclude overtime, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses.

What should you know about mCCs, VFDs and motor controls?

Daily work includes motor control centers, variable frequency drives and starters. We ask what drives the candidate commissioned or repaired and how they traced faults. Specific brands and symptoms signal real experience.

What should you know about questions?

Wages for the OEWS survey are straight-time, gross pay, exclusive of premium pay. Base rate; cost-of-living allowances; guaranteed pay; hazardous-duty pay; incentive pay, including commissions and production bonuses; and tips are included. Excluded are overtime pay, severance pay, shift differentials, nonproduction bonuses, employer cost for supplementary benefits, and tuition reimbursements.

What is the median pay for a Industrial Electrician?

The median annual wage for Electricians in the United States was $63,190 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, OEWS, May 2025). The middle half of workers earned between $49,430 and $83,940.

What does this data mean for your opening?

Industrial Electricians are essential for managing electrical infrastructure and troubleshooting machine controls in manufacturing. This profession maps to the SOC 47-2111 category. For Industrial Electrician in the United States, releases are separate survey estimates. The May 2025 median is $63,190; the May 2024 median is $62,350. Their arithmetic difference is $840.

They are not the same workers' raises and do not establish a pay trend or its cause. The middle band width stands at $34,510, indicating a significant spread in annual earnings. Manufacturing Headhunters emphasizes that these BLS figures exclude shift differentials and specialized technical premiums.

Metro-specific data highlights pay regionality. The New York-Newark-Jersey City area shows a higher median of $79,020, while the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro sits at $59,010. The location quotient for New York is 0.79, while Dallas stands at 1.06. These regional medians reflect local cost of living and industrial demand rather than differences in the electrician's technical licensing or skill sets. The broad grouping of this occupation code means these figures cover various work settings.

Industry-specific national data shows that the work environment impacts wages. The Petroleum and Coal Products Manufacturing sector reports a national median of $107,840. Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing reports $96,830. These national figures represent the sector standard and clearly show that industrial electrical work in high-hazard settings often commands higher wages. These are national rows; they should not be applied to local facilities. The BLS does not distinguish between state-licensed journeymen and entry-level electrical maintenance workers.

Which pay questions should you settle before hiring?

For Industrial Electrician in the United States, percentiles describe the wage distribution of the mapped occupation. The published middle interval is $49,430 to $83,940 annually. They do not assign pay to plant size, seniority, credentials or job complexity. Assess duties and candidate requirements separately; these rows do not measure a premium for them.

Is the wage range different for state-licensed electricians?

The BLS data does not distinguish between licensed and unlicensed workers. All electricians are captured in the same broad occupation report.

How are the comparison metros selected?

The comparison metros are selected based on the highest occupational employment reported by the BLS for that specific code.

What is the primary driver of the pay spread?

For Industrial Electrician in the United States, percentiles describe the wage distribution of the mapped occupation. The published middle interval is $49,430 to $83,940 annually. They do not assign pay to plant size, seniority, credentials or job complexity. Assess duties and candidate requirements separately; these rows do not measure a premium for them.
